Hunting Safaris

Hunting Concessions

Zingeli Safaris has concessions in various provinces of South Africa. These range from the commonly called Bushveld area to open grasslands, coastal forest and sand dunes. These all host an incredible diversity of wildlife. Most of our concessions have been hunted for 3 years or longer and we continuously obtain new areas. Concession sizes vary between 2500 – 70 000 acres. Well equipped safari vehicles are utilized for the duration of the hunt.

Temperature

Low temperatures vary between 25 – 35 °F (3-5°C) and highs of 60 - 70 °F (15-25°C) during the winter months (June – August).  Other months are moderate to hot.  Comfortable clothing, a warm jacket and soft soled, worn-in shoes are recommended.

Rifles and Rifle permits

Rifles can be readily imported into South Africa and require only that the rifle be declared at the airport upon arrival in South Africa and the necessary documentation is completed (SAP 520).  It is however important to note that no semi automatic or automatic weapons may be imported into South Africa. Proof of ownership will be requested at the South African Police desk before any permits are issued.

Instructions for filling in the SAP 520 form:

1. Black ink must be used to fill in the form.
2. The form must be left unsigned until the document is finalized in front of the police official issuing the actual permit.
3. Please note only the following sections of the form apply:
  a. Section D – (temporary import or export permit)
  b. Section E : 1 – 25.4
  c. Section G
  d. Section I – (All details required)
  e. Section J – (remember do not sign until in front a police officer at the firearms office)

Additional requirements along with the SAP 520

1. Valid passport
2. Return airline ticket
3. Proof of ownership of firearm – USA citizens,US customs Declarations form Z4457 (officially stamped) is acceptable.
4. Invitation letter from hunting outfitter .

Rifle Hunting

Each hunter should bring the rifle that he or she is most comfortable with.
We suggest any calibre bigger and including 7mm. A very popular all round calibre for antelope is the 30-06. With respect to ammunition, it is recommended that well constructed soft nose bullets or monolithic hollow points are used for big game like Barnes® TSX, Swift® A Frame and Nosler® Partitions and monolithic solids on dangerous game. (Elephant & Hippo)

Bow Hunting

To ensure the greatest success we have our blinds situated near water holes and salt licks. Shots are usually taken between 15 – 30 yards. It has been found that well constructed broadheads Rage® 2- Blade (our preferred broadhead), NAP®, Slick Trick and Meat Seeker are also essential for a successful hunt.

Reservation and Deposits

To confirm a booking, a deposit amounting to 50% of the basic cost of the safari is required. The balance is payable in travelers checks, certified bank draft or cash at the end of the Safari. In the event of a cancellation, the deposit, less any expenses incurred, will be refunded. No refund of deposit can be made if the Safari is canceled within three months of the contracted starting date unless the safari can be re-booked.

Importation of Firearms

Visitors bringing firearms into South Africa for hunting purposes will be asked to fill in a (SAP 520) Temporary Import Application which is available from Zingeli Safaris ( www.zingeli.com or e-mail: info@zingeli.com , or which can be downloaded off the SAPS website www.saps.gov.za or which could be filled out upon arrival. We would suggest filling in the form beforehand to save processing time at the police firearms office. The permit could also be obtained before arrival from us, or www.phasa.co.za (recommended) at a small fee.
