Cape Town
Cape Town is one of the world’s most imposing cities. It lies cradled between the waters of the Atlantic ocean and the cliffs of Table Mountain. The city is well positioned, and a drive of less than an hour in any direction reveals areas as diverse as the whale coast, the wine lands and the quiet desolation of the West Coast.
The view which can be enjoyed of Cape Town and the surrounding peninsula from Table Mountain (recently named as one of the natural wonders of the world) has often been noted as one of the finest views in the world. It is a vibrant cosmopolitan city with a character that is truly South African. The city has in recent years become one of the world’s foremost attractions and few who visit her shores leave without a sense of appreciation.
Mpumalanga
Not as well known as some of the other highlights in Southern Africa, the Mpumalanga Highlands lie roughly halfway between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park. The area is a windswept grassland which forms the divide between the central plateau and the Lowveld Big Five area. An abundance of waterfalls occur on the eastern escarpment in an area where most of the rivers which flow eastward and on to the Kruger National Park have their source.
The region offers visitors a rich history and many outdoor activities which can be enjoyed in a highland setting. Amongst the many activities, fly fishing for the golden, brown and especially rainbow trout has in recent years become extremely popular. The elevation above sea level ensures a temperate climate even in the middle of summer.
